How To Make A Cushion For A Window Seat
Easy, Stapled DIY Window Seat Cushion
Have you been following forth with my 1 Room Challenge? If non, I am making over my home part with a six-week deadline; I will be posting this week's progress on Thursday and you can catch upwardly on what I achieved final weekHere. I had long envisioned my plans for the built-inswith a window seat, but it wasn't until concluding week that I fifty-fifty thought of a window seatabsorber.I wasn't entirely sure what I wanted merely after taking measurements, I knew information technology had to be nether 2″ to fit nether the window sill. Since it would primarily exist for aesthetic, the lack of substantial padding didn't carp me. I take never DIY'd with fabric, foam, boards, etc., but laying in bed Sabbatum morning, I created a plan of action that would requite me an easy, stapled DIY window seat cushion by that afternoon.
THE SUPPLIES
- i sheet of plywood(thinnest available; canvas cut at Lowe'due south)
- roll of poly foam(shown- 1″ ten 27″ ten 76″
- cloth (2.five yards for 76 inch length)
- spray adhesive
- staple gun
- ane/iv″ staples
Before starting, I ironed the fabric. Full disclosure, as I mentioned, I wasn't certain what I wantedexactly; I very well may change the fabric before the challenge is over to a thicker, duck fabric material or apply a thin throw-blanket from HomeGoods.
IMPORTANT: make sure to lay your cutting wood on the window seat. I was so glad we did this because my canvas was actually cutting kleptomaniacal. Instead of taking it dorsum, my hubby took a metallic file and went to town on the side to even it up and brand it fit in the space. Depending on the thickness of your fabric, you may want to adjust your measurement in by ane/4 to one/two inch.
Spray one side of the board with the spray adhesive. I was conscientious not to spray on the carpet but depending on the forcefulness and spray, you may want to practise this footstep outside.
Line upward the corner of the foam beyond the lath. When straight, press down.
Cut the excess with scissors or a knife. You will want this to be straight and then use the edge of the board equally your guide. Because my foam was an inch short, I used the excess to fill the gap then cut again.
The cream should comprehend the entire board. You tin elevator up the sides and spray more agglutinative under the foam in any spots that didn't accept.
Lay your ironed fabric flat and place the cream covered board, foam side downward, in the center.
When your fabric is directly, have one side, wrap it over and pull taut. Staple that side to the board, pulling it taut as you lot go. I had my husband step in for this part.
Pull the other side tight, wrap the board, and echo the same steps. If yous realize you have a little actress fabric that wasn't pulled tightly enough, take the fabric and pull information technology once again, stapling along the fold.
Accept the ends and fold them similar you are wrapping a gift. If y'all have a LOT of excess fabric, y'all can cutting a piffling off the ends earlier folding.
Pull it tightly and staple.
Pay attending to your corners to brand sure extra material doesn't bunch up. Repeat on the other side.
That'south it! You lot can finish this entire project in nether 30 minutes and it'south so simple, anyone can do information technology. Place the cushion on your bench and adore your self sufficiency 😉
Every bit I mentioned, Imay be taking the material off and trying something new depending on how the rest of my room comes together.
A little sneak peek of more than progress before the total report on Th 😉 We are almost at the halfway point so I promise you lot'll join me and check back then to see what I've been up to!
